OH people of SE Michigan... If you knew how your bands and musicians and musical styles are worshipped by un-Americans, you would have no further cause for worry. Detroit could rise from the ashes on the basis of Motown and the MC5 alone, and keep techno and Eminem aside for a rainy day.
I've been lookin on realtor.com for a house in Detroit. Because there's no question about it -- Detroit IS where the next renaissance in the arts in the USA is gonna take place.
I did the urban pioneer thing in New York in my 20s, in the 1980s. I'm not really up for being a victim of violent crime again. But Detroit is SO the place to be, I'm just gonna have to wrap my mind around another round of sex n drugs n knives n guns!
You watch: Any day now, the old lamas of rock will be out & about in AnnArbor, in Ypsilanti, in Ferndale, in Hamtramck, in Pontiac, in Royal Oak, in Redford, on 8 Mile, on the Lodge, on the John R, on Grand River, on Woodward itself, looking at children to see if Ron Asheton's been reincarnated yet. They think he has been, somewhere in the vicinity of the Grande Ballroom.
The wheels are definitely turning!

There hasn't been anything important musically in at least 20 years. It's all lame. Why?
